Brooklyn’s own MF Gallery has announced “All Hail GWAR,” a memorial art show to honor the band’s late frontman, Dave Brockie (a.k.a. Oderus Urungus). Brockie, who a press release notes “was prolific in many different visual mediums,” had a close relationship with this particular gallery, which hosted his 2004 solo show, as well as GWAR’s Crack-a-Thon in both 2010 and 2011.
The show will launch with a free, all-ages event on Saturday, May 3 from 7-10 pm. This will include music by GWAR, Death Piggy and DBX , projections of various Brockie-related and created videos, and a “Cash and Carry Sale,” with one third of the proceeds going to the newly-formed Dave Brockie Foundation, “a charity fund with the mission of promoting the advancement of music, images, letters and performances in the arts.” The show will continue for another month after opening night, but will by viewable by appointment only; you can view or purchase art from the show here, or make an appointment to see the work in-person by contacting MF Gallery’s Martina Secondo Russo at (917) 446-8681 or info AT MFgallery DOT net.
Nearly a hundred artists will contribute to the show — Sara Ray
