I love doing commissions-large and small-they are my bread and butter.I have had a couple people recently contact me about making a painting for them – who started out with “money is no object” ok ( always a bad sign as people with a lot of spare change never say money is no object ) well great but what are you looking to have made? They requested giant paintings – they said ” when someone walks into my house and sees it i want them to say holy sh#t!” one wanted his cars his bikes his girlfriend his dogs all in the painting – very detailed.OK i said well that’s gonna take me a couple months and i said for a painting as large as you want (about 4′ x 6′) it will be X amount of dollars (and i made it an extremely good deal ) the guy flipped out and said ” oh fu*k that’s a lot i thought you were gonna say like 300 bucks” and cut off contact – this happened almost identically with the second would be client. So here’s my solution for all you people who might be looking to have a beautiful piece of custom art made – with the subject matter or theme you request – before you go give a list of requirements to any artist you are looking to have something made by – decide what your budget is.I’m going to say it again – decide what your budget is - If these same people had called me and said i have about 300$ and id like to get a commission made – then i would easily have a set of options for them – size mediums and details – most artists are willing to work with you -we all have bills to pay and we live to paint and with your commission not regarding the budget we generally go an extra mile just because it is a client request.I will do a painting for 300 – it wont be 4′ x 6′ but it will be really nice and done with the same amount of care and skill as any of my paintings that you saw and gave you the idea to contact me in the first place-thanks and yes i do commissions

I have a list of paintings for a show drawn up- sketches are done now its to preparing the canvasses.I wish there was a way to go straight to paint-but the path is made of long hours sanding, framing, re drawing and preparing to paint.Just for this group of drawings alone it might be a year to complete.I make my own panels and sometimes even grind my own paint from the raw pigments. When people see a finished painting or take a print home i hope they can see the hours and fight put into making an oil painting- when you come see my show walk around and have a quick beer realize you are looking at years of my life hours spent hanging on those walls.
